I went to photograph the Mallards at sunrise, but only found these stragglers. They looked so malnourished and sickly, I thought, "Poof fellas, their Momma's didn't want them and they must have been left behind." Upon asking some avid duck hunters, I was quickly informed that they're just molting, the same way a snake sheds their skin, the same way deer and elk and most other things get ready for Fall. Shows how much I know. I got to thinking if any of you ever look at me and think, "Wow buddy, you're looking a little rough, like your Momma didn't want you and you got left behind, well guess what? I happen to be molting. You just wait and see.
